ICMUM 2023, or the International Conference of Mining Museums Wieliczka-Zabrze 2023, turned out to be a real feast for lovers of the underground world and enthusiasts of mining heritage. The event, which lasted 4 days, attracted the attention of numerous participants, and their commitment and enthusiasm exceeded our expectations
The motto of this year's conference was "Mining Heritage = Human Heritage." This slogan showed the deeper significance of mining for the development of civilization and emphasized the importance of preserving this heritage around the world. Speakers from different countries and continents gave us invaluable information on the contribution of mining to our history and society.
The conference featured a total of 67 lectures, with more than 40 speakers from 21 countries and 5 continents. The wide range of topics covered in the presentations was inspiring and educational. Participants had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of mining, such as mining technologies, the social and economic impact of mining, heritage preservation and much more.
During the conference's deliberations, we considered how we can contribute to a positive perception of mining heritage among the general public. Practical tips were shared on interpreting mining heritage, creating attractive educational programs and promoting tourism related to the topic.
ICMUM 2023 contributed to strengthening the community of mining heritage enthusiasts, creating a platform for sharing knowledge and experience, and raising awareness of the importance of mining to our culture and history. The conference was also an excellent opportunity to establish international contacts that will serve to further cooperation in the field of mining heritage, as well as to promote Poland abroad.
