location SALTWORKS CASTLE
DATE 9 November 2016 - 5 March 2017
The exhibition introduces the atmosphere of World War I and the post-war period through numerous memorabilia: military decorations and uniforms, weapons as well as family souvenirs, documents, photographs, paintings and posters. The exhibition presents many interesting objects, including those that show legionary life.
The dental drill from the field dental outpatient clinic of the Polish Legions is surprising, the attention is attracted by the 1908 Irwing Cycles bicycle that was used by soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army before and during World War I. There is a lot of weapons from melee to firearms, including various grenades and heavy machine guns. Interesting are photographs from the ceremony of dedication of the banner of the Polish Legionnaires' Union in Wieliczka, and especially those for which the Saltworks Castle became the background with the inscription "Salina Board" visible above the entrance.

Among the monuments is also the banner of the Association of Polish Legionnaires in Wieliczka and its Foundation Act, as well as photographs accompanying this solemn ceremony. Worth noting is the Legions Shield, located in the collections of the Wieliczka Museum, whose unveiling and consecration took place during a patriotic ceremony on May 14, 1916 in the Lower Market Square in front of the Town Hall.

In March this year, the Poviat National Committee in Wieliczka published the following call to the residents of Wieliczka: "Let every commune, every school in the poviat, every Pole who did not take part in the fight against the enemy of his homeland, has his own Nail of Honor." Funds from the collection went to widows and orphans of fallen legionnaires.
