From 24-28 March 2025, the World Salt Congress took place. This is the fifth event of its kind. A conference organized by the University of Rzeszów took place in Rzeszów and Wieliczka in Poland. As part of the event, all participants visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where they attended lectures, toured the mine, and explored the Museum.
The congress is co-organised by the University of West Alabama from the United States and the Cracow Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka.

The event brought together 43 specialists from four continents from Europe, Asia, North America and South America, primarily archaeologists specializing in ancient salt production, with up to 60 participants attending the sessions in Rzeszów.

The Cracow Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka actively participated in the conference. Katarzyna Lajs-Klose delivered a lecture on Neolithic salt production, providing valuable insights into early salt-making techniques. Following the sessions at the university, the Saltworks Castle hosted a special session in Wieliczka on March 28, 2025.

As part of this event, participants had the opportunity to explore key sites in Wieliczka, including the Saltworks Castle, the graduation tower, and the historic Wieliczka Salt Mine. The combination of academic discussions and on-site visits provided a comprehensive perspective on salt-related archaeology and history, making the conference a unique and enriching experience.
