Anna and Paweł Maciukiewicz are passionate collectors who have dedicated almost their entire lives to gathering works of art. The cradle of their interests is Fałkowice near Gdów—their family home and a place of connection with their ancestors' history. Over time, their passion for collecting grew, and their collection expanded with objects brought from various corners of the world. "We wanted to share our fascinations and passions, which are an integral part of our lives. Finally, this is becoming possible here in Wieliczka," say the collectors.
The exhibition is divided into several thematic sections, including porcelain, objects related to Kraków, Japan, and the Middle East, memorabilia of Prince Józef Poniatowski and other historical figures, as well as Buczacz belts and tapestries. The exhibits come from various periods and cultural backgrounds. However, the most significant sections are majolica and militaria.
Majolica, porcelain, oriental tapestries, militaria, and memorabilia of historical figures—these are just some of the exceptional artifacts showcased at the exhibition in the Żupny Castle. Among them are true rarities, such as a metal belt that once belonged to Juliusz Kossak and was immortalized in Jan Matejko’s painting The Battle of Grunwald. The collection, built over the years by Anna and Paweł Maciukiewicz, offers a fascinating journey through different eras and cultures—from the 15th century to the present day. Without a doubt, each exhibit is unique and extraordinary. Some also have particularly intriguing histories, such as a metal belt dating back to the 17th/18th century. It is known to have been owned by Juliusz Kossak and came into the hands of the Maciukiewicz family along with a hussar armor.
The exhibition is displayed in the former apartments of high-ranking officials of the salt enterprise, which themselves represent a unique element of historical heritage. The walls of these interiors are adorned with remarkable polychromes dating from the 16th to the 19th century.
