Visitor policies

  • Sightseeing takes place solely in the presence of a guide;
  • Visiting the Tourist Route, i.e. 20 historical chambers connected by 2 km of drifts and 17 chambers of the underground exhibition of the Cracow Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka situated on level III of the mine lasts approx. 3 hours;
  • Tourist go down into the mine by stairs (380 steps) to the first level (64 m);
  • Exit to the ground takes place by lift in the Daniłowicz Shaft from level III (135 m);
  • The temperature underground is constant at 14oC above zero; therefore, whilst visiting the mine in the summer, it is necessary to take thicker clothing;
  • There is a complete ban on smoking in the mine; it is also forbidden to use any open source of light as well as electric torches.
  • In exceptional situations (e.g. mining works or unexpected visits), the organisation of tourist traffic may be changed, and some chambers may be excluded from visiting.

Handicapped individuals in the mine

  • the so-called Tourist Route (1st part) – traditional sightseeing – booking: +48 12 278 58 49;
  • underground Museum exhibitions (3rd part) – sightseeing in the form of educational classes – booking: +48 12 278 58 49

Due to the intensity of tourist traffic in the summer season between April 1 – October 31, it is recommended to make a booking in the morning, i.e. between 7.00 and 8.00 a.m., or in late afternoon, i.e. between 6.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. Apart from the summer season, a visit to the mine may be booked between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.
